Colorado State earns the season sweep against the Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. – Colorado State completed its week in California, picking up a 61-54 win at Fresno State (8-19, 1-13) on Saturday afternoon. The win is the second of the week in the Golden State after a victory at San Jose State on Thursday.

CSU (17-8, 10-4) was led by McKenna Hofschild with 17, while also dishing out six assists and pulling down seven rebounds – all led the Rams. Hannah Ronsiek added another seven boards on the defense, while Cailyn Crocker pulled in seven. Crocker was the only other player in double figures for Colorado State with 13 points – seven coming from the charity stripe with a 7-of-7 performance.

Colorado State shot 46.8 percent for the game (22-of-47) and 26.7 percent from behind the arc (4-of-15). The defense held Fresno State to 33.9 mark in shooting and 25 percent from 3-point range.

Fresno State started the game leading nearly the first 10 minutes. The Rams' defense locked in and kept the Bulldogs without a basket for the final 2:42 of the first quarter, while the offense finished on a 6-0 run to take the lead and hold a four-point advantage. CSU used another 5-0 run in the second quarter to lead by six after Clark knocked down an and-one. Colorado State grabbed its largest lead of the game at the 4:27 mark of the second leading by seven, 25-18. The Rams hit that advantage again with three minutes left while the defense held strong, keeping Fresno State to just two made buckets from the field in nearly seven minutes of the second quarter.

At the break, CSU was shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) from the field and 2-of-6 from downtown. The defense held the Bulldogs in check at 28.6 percent (8-of-28) and 30.8 percent from 3-point range. Of the seven Rams who logged minutes in the first half, all scored a basket.

Both offenses stalled in the third, scoring a combined 21 points. The Rams scored their 10 points in the first five points of the quarter, going nearly the last five minutes of the frame scoreless. Fresno State was also scoreless for the last 3:15 as well.

In the final frame the Rams' offense was the most productive, hitting 6-of-10 shots, while making 9-of-11 from the free-throw line – finishing 13-of-15 for the game. Fresno State got within a point in the fourth quarter, but CSU put together a 10-2 run to grab its largest lead of the game a 49-40 with 4:14 left to play. From there, majority of the scoring came from the charity stripe with a combined 14 made free throws. Hofschild led all scores in the final frame making 13 of CSU's 22 points.
