Rams Lead After Shortened Day 1 of The Beach Invitational

Four Rams are in the top 15, Andrea Bergsdottir tied for the lead
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – It was a good day on the course for Colorado State women's golf as they sit in first place at the shortened first day of The Beach Invitational. The Rams hold a three-stroke lead over host Long Beach State and Sam Houston. CSU entered round two eight strokes out of first place and tied for fourth with an opening round 309.
All teams had just made the turn when the horn sounded to end the day due to darkness and course conditions.
"I am very proud of the way we competed today with the weather and on a tough golf course. We stayed patient and trusted the process," head coach Laura Cilek said. "This group can compete with anyone when they play confidently and have fun. Looking forward to competing for a win tomorrow!
Four Rams sit in the top 15 led by Andrea Bergsdottir who's tied for first at 3-over entering tomorrow's final day. The senior shot a 3-over 75 in the first round to be tied for eighth. She is even-par through 11 holes in her second round with a birdie and bogey. Two other players are tied with her atop the leaderboard.
Sofia Torres and Panchalika Arphamongkol are tied for 12th at 8-over for the tournament. Torres had a strong start to her day with back-to-back birdies and three over her first four holes. Like everyone else on the course, the weather and tough conditions caught up to her with a 6-over, 78 in round one.
Pa. Arphamongkol shot a 9-over, 81 in the opening round, but has rebounded well sitting at 1-under with a pair of birdies through 11 holes played. Her sister Pemika is a stroke behind and tied for 15th at 9-over for the tournament.
Second round play will resume at 9 am MT tomorrow with completion of the second round followed by the final 18.
CSU is aiming for its second team win of the season after taking first place to close out its fall season at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
