Bergsdottir, Torres finish in top 10
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Colorado State women's golf pushed No. 21 UCLA to the end at The Beach Invitational coming up just five strokes short finishing in second place. The Rams entered the final round with a five-stroke lead after being the lone team to shoot below 300 in the second round.
All 15 teams completed their suspended second round Tuesday morning with CSU shooting a 298 to be atop the leaderboard with 18 holes to play. Andrea Bergsdottir, Sofia Torres and Panchalika Arphamongkol were all in the top 10 through 36 holes of play. A key to the Rams' strong second round was the even-par rounds from Bersdottir and Pa. Arphamongkol.
In the final round, CSU, like the rest of the teams, battled tough conditions shooting a 21-over, 309 to finish in second place.
Bergsdottir and Torres finished in the top 10, tying for second and taking eighth place, respectively. Bersdottir picked up her best finish of the season and second top five finish of the year with her 9-over, 225. She finished three strokes behind Zulaikah Nasser of Sam Houston.
Torres earned her third top 10 finish of the season by claiming eighth all to herself with a 12-over, 228. Her best round of the tournament was the second with a 2-over, 74.
Pemika Arphamongkol claimed a top 25 finish with her 20-over, 236.
No Ram finished lower than tied for 31st.
Colorado State returns to action March 10-12 at the Clover Cup hosted by Arizona State at the Longbow Golf Club.
