CSU thrower places twelfth in the shot put at the NCAA Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State track and field team boasts another second team All-American finish from the NCAA Championship meet as day two, and the collegiate indoor season comes to a close.

Thrower Gabi McDonald placed twelfth in the women's shot put with a mark of 16.20 meters, earning her the first All-American honors of her career.

"I think Gabi competed really well. She's coming off of the best meet of her life and to finish twelfth in the best indoor shot competition in NCAA history, there is something to be said for that," Head Coach and throws coach Brian Bedard said. "It was a super stacked and historic field, so I'm just proud of the way she competed and even making the meet was a huge accomplishment."

McDonald qualified for a spot in the NCAA Championship after breaking the school record in the shot put with a personal best throw of 17.55 meters two weeks ago at the Mountain West Championship meet.

Her first throw was the best throw recorded of the competition at 16.20 meters, with her third throw landing just out of bounds.

"She fouled her best throw out of the right sector line which would have moved her up probably two spots to tenth place, but in hindsight, I've never seen her more excited for the outdoor season to start," Bedard said.

The full Colorado State track and field team will begin its outdoor season in two weeks at the Spank Blasing Invitational hosted by CSU-Pueblo March 24 and 25.
