Three Rams Qualify to Compete at NCAA Championships

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After winning the 2023 Women's Indoor Mountain West Championship, the Colorado State women's track and field team boasts three Ram qualifiers for the NCAA Championship meet. Lexie Keller, Sarah Carter and Gabi McDonald will compete on the national stage March 10 and 11.

All three Rams make the trip back to Albuquerque to complete in the NCAA Championship meet with both Keller and McDonald coming off season best performances at the Mountain West Championship, which took place at the end of February.

Keller will compete in the women's pentathlon as she enters with the fifth best score in the country of 4,306 points. Keller recorded this qualifying score at the Mountain West Championships meet to claim first place in the pentathlon and Mountain West All-Conference honors for her third consecutive indoor season. She will be competing in her hometown of Albuquerque. This will be Keller's second indoor NCAA Championship experience as she placed third in the pentathlon last year.

Carter will compete in the women's 5,000 meter run as she enters with the fifteenth best time in the qualifying field of 15:41.70 seconds. Carter claimed All-Conference honors for her first-place finish in both the 5,000 meter and 3,000 meter runs at the conference championship meet. Already the owner of the school record for the indoor 5K, Carter also broke the school record for the indoor women's 3K two weekends ago. This will be Carter's first indoor NCAA Championship appearance.

Gabi McDonald will compete in the women's shot put, entering with the twelfth best mark in the country of 17.55 meters, which broke the school record when she recorded it at the Mountain West Championships meet two weekends ago. This is McDonald's second consecutive season earning indoor All-Conference honors and her first appearance at the indoor NCAA Championships.

The NCAA Championship meet will take place in Albuquerque March 10 and 11 with the pentathlon and women's 5,000 meter taking place Friday and the women's shot put taking place Saturday. The full Colorado State track and field team will kick off its outdoor season at the Spank Blasing Invitational hosted by CSU-Pueblo March 24.
