Rams Prep for Outdoor Play in Florida

Two matches on tap Saturday for No. 45 CSU

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With the dual season underway, Colorado State is set to play outdoor matches for the first time this season.

The No. 45 tennis team travels to Boca Raton, Fla., playing a pair of matches Saturday. First up is Florida Atlantic (8 a.m. MT), followed by a trip across the city to face Lynn University (1 p.m.). The trip is an extended one, with a few days of training in front of the matches and a few more days after.

"The team is extremely excited to train and play outdoor matches," CSU head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "It will be challenging for us to transition, but it will be great preparation for us as we finish our non-conference season and enter conference play."

Florida Atlantic is 5-9 on the season but has won two in a row heading into Thursday's match with Kennesaw State. Lynn, a Division II school, is 7-1, the only loss coming to No. 2 Nova Southeast.

The Rams have entered and stayed in the rankings, currently sitting at No. 45. They are the only team in the Mountain West ranked by the ITA. While it has been a boost for the program, it is not a main concern for the squad or its coach.

"We're enjoying the ranking, but we're also aware that we don't want it to be a distraction,' Tran said. "We are focusing on our preparation for our next match."

Saturday's matches will draw the team closer to conference play. The Rams will host Creighton on March 19 (11 a.m.) before launching into Mountain West matches, beginning on the road in Fresno, Calif.
