Â
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Track and Field team travels to California as the Rams are set to compete in a myriad of meets spanning from April 13-15.Â
Â
The weekend will contain three total meets which will divide the team based on events. The sprinters, jumpers, and throwers will all compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate while distance runners will partake in the Bryan Clay Invitational. Lastly senior and two-time All-American Lexie Keller will represent Colorado State in the Mt. SAC Relays.
Â
In the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Cal State Long Beach, Colorado State will garner much attention during the men's 800 meters. This event will welcome Ryan Birkmeier, Levi Killian, and Cameron Ross to the track. These three athletes currently own the second, third and fourth positions in the Mountain West for the men's outdoor 800 meters.
Â
The pole vault will also be a featured event for the Colorado State team, as Celyn Stermer and Sam Mrky look to jump to the top of the podium and move to the No. 1 position in the Mountain West ‑ both currently hold second place. Jo-Anna Pinnock and Allam Bushara are also hoping to highlight their leaping ability at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. Pinnock ranks third place in the Mountain West with a season best mark of 12.95 meters while Bushara sits atop the conference with a mark of 15.67 meters.
Â
The Colorado State throwing team will be on full display at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. The men's shot put event will see the current second place holder in the Mountain West, Mariano Kis with a season best mark of 17.79 meters, compete for the top of the podium. On the women's side, Gabi McDonald and Mya Lesnar have been dominating the field leading them to the second and third best marks in the entire Mountain West. The discus throw is going to be a marquee event for the Colorado State throwing team as well with this event being headlined by Jackson Morris. Morris holds the number one spot in the Mountain West for discus with a conference-best mark of 55.58 meters.
Â
The Colorado State distance team will compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational held in Azusa, California and hosted by Azusa Pacific University. The distance team is fresh off recent success at the Stanford Invitational where three different Rams broke the school record for the women's 10,000 meter-run. Annabel Stafford was the leader of this pack and replaced the school record with her time of 32:58.14, shortly followed by Sarah Carter and Lily Tomasula-Martin. Claire Hengesbaugh also saw success at the Stanford Invitational in the women's 5,000 meters as she claimed the first spot in the Mountain West with a time of 16:00.92.
Â
Lexie Keller will be the lone Ram heading to Walnut, California to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays. This elite level meet is one of the largest in the country each year where Keller will see competition from all over the country as she competes in her first heptathlon of the season.
Â
Keller holds the school record in the women's heptathlon with a score of 5,834 while also coming off a tremendously successful indoor season where she helped the women's team win the Indoor Mountain West Championship. During the indoor season, Keller claimed first place in the pentathlon with a final score of 4,306, nearly 50 points above second place.
Â
Following this west coast trip, the Rams will have six days off before they head to the Kit Mayer Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines April 21-22.
