Colorado State looks to compete for a championship with both men's and women's teams

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State track and field team will travel to Fresno, California to compete in the 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Championship Meet May 11-13. Both the Rams men's and women's teams will look to compete for a championship as the women look to defend their 2023 Indoor Mountain West Championship and the men's team looks to build on their runner up finish at the indoor championships in February.

Multiple Rams will also look to defend personal titles from the indoor season and last year's outdoor campaign.

The championship meet will kick off Thursday morning with both the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon as seniors Lexie Keller and Drew Thompson look to defend their multi crown from the indoor season as Keller won the indoor pentathlon, qualifying for the NCAA Championship meet in the process, and Thompson followed with a win in the indoor heptathlon.

After Thursday's multi events, day one will finish with the men's and women's 10K, highlighted by both Mason Brown and Sarah Carter. Carter enters as the reigning indoor 3K and 5K champion, as the senior played a critical part in Colorado State's championship bid during the indoor season. Brown enters the event with the second-best seed time this season alongside Brock Dykema and Lars Mitchel who all rank within the top five seed times.

As the meet moves off the track, Ram jumpers and throwers highlight Colorado State's field event crew. The triple jump duo of Allam Bushara and Jo-Anna Pinnock enter the meet with both athletes breaking the triple jump school record earlier this outdoor season. Bushara looks to defend his title in the event from the 2023 indoor season. Pinnock, a freshman, will compete in the second conference meet of her short career so far as a Ram.

Within the throwing events, the trio of Gabi McDonald, Mya Lesnar and Michaela Hawkins will look to continue their dominance on the women's side with both Jackson Morris and Mariano Kis representing the Rams on the men's side.

McDonald enters the championship meet as the reigning runner up in the women's shot put and NCAA qualifier from indoor season. She also won the event at the 2022 Outdoor championships. Hawkins is the reigning champion in the women's hammer throw with Lesnar, the sophomore transfer, entering the hammer throw event with the top seed of 63.50 meters.

Morris currently ranks first in the conference in the men's javelin with a season best mark of 74.27 meters, a mark that also shattered his own school record earlier in the outdoor season. He is the reigning Mountain West champion in the javelin throw after an All-American season last year, qualifying for the NCAA Championship meet. Kis, the reigning outdoor men's shot put champion will look to defend his title when the men's shot put kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Both athletes will also compete in the men's discus as Morris enters with the second best seed mark of 58.38 meters.

Fans can tune into the championship action with a live stream available on Mountain West Network. A full schedule of all three days as well as live results will also be available at CSURams.com
