21 Rams Qualify for NCAA West Regional Meet

Colorado State set to continue its postseason in Sacramento

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – 21 Rams apart of the Colorado State track and field team have punched their ticket to the NCAA West Regional Meet in Sacramento, California May 24-27. Colorado State will boast representatives competing in 16 different events over the four-day meet with the top twelve in each event qualifying for the NCAA Championship meet taking place in Austin, Texas June 7-10.
 
Day one of the West Regional will be exclusive to men's events with Rams entered in five of the thirteen events taking place Wednesday. Jackson Morris will kick off the meet for Colorado State as he competes in the men's javelin throw at 2:30 p.m. mountain time. Morris' top mark of the season of 74.27 meters ranks sixth in the region and eleventh in the nation. Following the javelin throw, the men's shot put will take place at 7 p.m. and feature the 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Champion, Mariano Kis. Kis' top mark of the season ranks No. 31 in the region.
 
Moving onto the track, Wednesday's events will continue with sprinters Tom Willems, competing in the men's 400 meter, and Tyler Colwell, competing in the men's 200 meter. Both of these events will act as preliminary heats with the top three athletes in each heat plus the next six best times advancing to the final heats Friday, cutting the original field of 48 down to 24 before advancing 12 athletes to the championship meet. Wednesday will conclude with the men's 10K run, taking place at 10:10 p.m. where Mason Brown and Brock Dykema will represent the Rams' distance team.
 
Day two will move to the women's event with sophomore Mya Lesnar getting things started in the women's hammer throw at 11 a.m. After the hammer throw, Lesnar will return to action and compete in the women's shot put at 7 p.m. alongside teammate and 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Champion Gabi McDonald. Both boast marks within the top 20 in the West Regional field including McDonald coming in with the thirteenth best mark of 17.17 meters.
 
Shortly after, beginning at 7:30 p.m., Celyn Stermer will represent Colorado State in the women's pole vault. The night will once again conclude with the 10K event, but this time for the women. Three Rams will run this event, including Sarah Carter and Annabel Stafford who were the 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Champion and Runner-Up respectively as well as senior Lily-Tomasula Martin.
 
Friday's events will return to the men's side of things starting once again with Jackson Morris, this time competing in the men's discus at 2 p.m. mountain time. Morris enters No. 21 in the event with a season best mark of 58.38 meters. At 6:40 p.m., both Thomas Chaston and Dawson Besst will compete in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase as both athletes rank within the top 30 times in the region. 2023 Indoor and Outdoor Mountain West Men's Triple Jump Champion, Allam Bushara, will compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships Meet at 7 p.m. Friday as he enters the men's triple jump event with a top mark of 15.91 meters, good for seventeenth in the region.
 
The meet will conclude Saturday with four women's events starting with the women's discus. With four Rams qualifying for the West Regional in this event, 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Champion Gabi McDonald leads the way with a top mark of 59.75 meters, ranked third in the region. Michaela Hawkins, Klaire Kovatch and Mya Lesnar also qualified for the event with all four Rams being ranked within the top 30 in the region. Hawkins's top mark of 55.98 meters comes in as No. 12, projecting her apart of the qualifying marks.
 
Moving into the women's jump events, 2023 Outdoor Mountain West Women's High Jump Champion Sharde Johnson will compete in the high jump at 3:30 p.m. with freshman teammate Jo-Anna Pinnock competing in the women's triple jump at 7 p.m.
 
The regional meet will wrap up with the women's 5K event at 9:10 p.m. Saturday where Sarah Carter will return to action alongside teammates Claire Hengesbaugh and Lauren Neugeboren. Carter enters the event ranked No. 19 with Hengesbaugh ranked No. 24 and Neugeboren ranked No. 42.
