Rams Get Underway at Regional

Tournament to take singular focus on second day

LAS CRUCES, N.M.  – After the first day of play, the ITA Mountain Regional has become a singles pursuit for the Rams.
 
The NCAA Fall Championships qualifying tournament opened with doubles play, with both of Colorado State's tandems falling in the first round by 8-5 scores.
 
The only singles action of the first day for the Rams belonged to freshman Mariya Dobreva, who was placed in the qualifying singles draw. Having to win a pair of matches to advance into the main bracket, Dobreva swept past Natalie Cinkova of Denver, 6-3, 7-5, then fell in a three-setter to Maya Dutta of Boise State, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3.
 
Friday's task for the Rams will be to navigate the first two rounds of the main singles draw, beginning at 8 a.m., with four Rams in action. Both doubles teams will play consolation matches during the day.
