Border War Closes Out Regular Season

MW Championship play on the horizon

FORT COLLINS – The march will continue, but the regular season comes to an end Thursday when Colorado State's biggest rival comes to town.

The Rams, 7-1-2 in Mountain West play, stand second in the standing with 23 points as Wyoming visits the CSU Soccer Field on Thursday (4 p.m.). CSU, 11-4-3 overall, still has a chance to win the conference title with a win, combined with a Boise State loss. The final seeding would be determined by tiebreakers of goal differential, followed by goals scored, both criteria in conference play.

The Halloween contest serves as an Orange Out game, with a live stream and live stats available.

If the Rams win, they automatically clinch at least the second seed in the upcoming Mountain West tournament, which begins Sunday at San Diego State. A tie and a Utah State loss also clinches the second seed, but a loss combined with a Utah State win would slip the Rams to third.

The top two seeds in the tournament earn a first-round bye and would not play until Nov. 6.

Wyoming:

  • The Cowgirls stand seventh in Mountain West standings following a pair of draws last week.
  • Wyoming is 4-6-8 overall and 2-3-5 in conference.
  • The Cowgirls lead the series 9-1-1.

Quick Kicks:

  • Mia Casey has recorded seven assists this season, bringing her career total to eight which ties her for second in program history, while her 28 career points bring her to fourth all time. Casey ranks second in a single-season for assists, just one behind Gracie Armstrong's total in 2019.
  • Casey's goal against New Mexico was her fifth of the season, tying her with Maggie Altman for the team lead.
  • Taite DeLange's goal against New Mexico was the second of her career.
  • Colorado State's 27 goals on the season rank fourth in the Mountain West.
  • With an appearance Thursday, Kenady Leighton will tie the program record for games played at 84. She is already the program leader in games started (83) and minutes played (7.296). She and fellow defender Avery Vander Ven are the only two Rams to have played every minute this season (1,620).

What's Ahead:

  • Next week, Colorado State will begin Mountain West Championship play hosted in San Diego, Calif.
