Rams’ Tandem Reaches Semifinals

Erechtchenko/Weekley to face top seed
LAS VEGAS – After a back-and-forth match, Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarah Weekley took control.
Facing San Diego State's Gloria Alogo Piqueras and Ninon Martinache in Thursday's quarterfinals of the Mountain West Fall Individuals, Colorado State's duo put together a full match, one where the two sides traded leads throughout the only set played. After forcing the decision to a 7-point tiebreak, Erechtchenko and Weekley seized control, building a 5-1 lead and finished it off with an 8-7 (2) decision which advances the duo to Friday's semifinals (10:30 a.m.) at the Darling Tennis Center.
The winner of the draw earns a qualifying spot to the ITA Masters, set to begin Nov. 7. In this next round, Erechtchenko and Weekley will face the top-seeded team from UNLV, Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao. The Rams' squad opened the tournament by beating the No. 4 seed. This is the first weekend the two have been paired together in doubles.
"It's been a lot of fun seeing Vici and Sarah, who are a brand new doubles team, go out and play together and beat a couple of good conference teams," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "They didn't have any expectations considering the preparation and literally went out and played tennis.
"They kept their cool when they were down and stepped up in the crucial moments. I was excited to see them play well the last couple of days, and I am looking forward to the next matchup."
They are guaranteed two more matches, with the finals and third-place matches slated for Saturday (10:30 a.m.)
Erechtchenko additionally had a consolation match in singles, defeating Maria Silvia Costache of Nevada 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.
Paisha Douglas picked up a side match with Boise State's Lorelyz Marruffo, winning 7-5, 6-3.
