Gritty Rams Open Conference Play with a Win

12/21/2024 5:50:00 PM | Men's Basketball

Colorado State wins for first time in Reno since 2022

RENO, Nev.  – Closing time. The experience and heartache from non-conference play for Colorado State men's basketball turned into joy and excitement to open Mountain West play. The Rams defeated Nevada on the road 66-64 to pick up their first win in Reno since 2022.

Colorado State led by as much as 11 early in the second half, but Nevada went on a 12-0 run to take a 52-50 lead with 8:18 remaining. CSU showed its grit not giving in to the pressure of the moment.

A key for the Rams down the stretch was the switch to a 2-3 defense as Nevada shot 3-for-10 over the game's final eight minutes.

Sophomore Kyan Evans hit the shot of the game with his top-of-the-key, NBA-range 3 with 1:39 left to put CSU up by four. He finished the night with a career-best 16 points, four rebounds and two assists. He made a trio of 3s as well.

What's Ahead
