Men’s Basketball Hosts New Mexico Saturday

Rams and Lobos square off in the Mountain West home opener on Saturday

FORT COLLINS  – Colorado State men's hoops return to action Saturday hosting New Mexico at 1 p.m. inside Moby Arena. Tickets for the game are just $7. Purchase tickets now at CSURams.com/Tickets. Any student with any school ID (college, high school, middle school, elementary) can get in free by just showing their ID.
 
Fans can stick around after the game to watch CSU football compete in the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl with a watch party on the big screen inside Moby Arena. Concession stands will stay open through the conclusion of the bowl game.
 
Opening Tip
- Colorado State opened up Mountain West play with a gutty 66-64 win at Nevada a week ago.
- Kyan Evans scored a career-high 16 points in the win, including hitting the dagger three to put the Rams up four with 1:30 left.
- Evans is averaging 9.6 points per game in his last seven games and shooting 50.0% (11-22) from behind the arc in the past five.
- Nique Clifford added 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win for his sixth double-double.
- Clifford is averaging 16.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game to lead Colorado State.
- He was selected to the preseason All-Mountain West team after earning third team honors last season.
- Rashaan Mbemba was the third Ram to reach double figures, scoring 10 points in the win.
- Since returning from injury he is averaging 12.0 points and 4.7 rebounds.
- Keshawn Williams has provided a strong scoring presence off the bench averaging 7.2 points per game.
- Over the past three games he is scoring 12.0 points a game and shooting 68.2%.
- CSU is 15-10 in Mountain West home openers. The Rams defeated New Mexico last season in the conference home opener 76-68.
- Freshman Kyle Jorgensen picked up Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in his first two games. He scored seven straight points for the Rams in overtime to lift them past TSU.
- The freshman started in four games this year, averaging 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds.
- Head coach Niko Medved is in his seventh year leading Colorado State. He is 124-80 as the Rams' head coach. He has the second most wins in program history trailing only Jim Williams (1955-80) and his 352.
- He became the fifth coach in program history to reach 100 wins in Fort Collins last year.
- Medved is the only coach in program history to win 20-plus games four times.
- He picked up his 200th career win in November with the Rams' overtime win over TCU.
- The Rams welcome 10 new faces to the program in 2024-25. Six are transfers, and four are true freshmen.
- The program's all-time leading scorer and assists leader, Isaiah Stevens has moved on to professional basketball after exhausting his eligibility. He signed a two-way contract with the Miami Heat on December 26 after a strong start to the year with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
- Stevens helped the Heat to a 2024 Summer League Championship.
- CSU has two players currently in the NBA or G League with David Roddy (Atlanta Hawks) and Isaiah Stevens (Miami Heat/Sioux Falls Skyforce).
 
Scouting the Lobos
New Mexico enters Saturday's game on a 10-day break last playing on December 18 when they defeated VCU at home 78-71.
 
Donovan Dent scored 40 points in the win over VCU. Dent is averaging 19.6 points and 7.3 assists per game for UNM.
 
Inside, Nelly Junior Joseph is averaging almost a double-double with 13.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
 
The Lobos led the Mountain West in scoring (87.0 ppg) and steals (10.3 spg) and 12th and 11th, respectively nationally in those categories.

Colorado State will ring in the new year in the Bay Area. CSU has a game against San Jose State on New Year's Eve. The Rams and Spartans tip-off at 3 p.m. MT
