Lesnar throws best shot put mark in the country so far this season

FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State track and field team competed in day two of both the Don Kirby Invitational and the Husky Classic as three school records were rewritten during Saturday's action.

Junior Mya Lesnar not only broke her own school record in the women's shot put with a throw of 19.07 meters, but this mark is also the best mark in the NCAA so far this season. Placing first within the field at the Don Kirby Invitational, Lesnar's mark is also the eighth-best all time in the NCAA. Her teammate Gabi Morris also placed third within the competition with a mark of 17.12 meters.

In Washington at the Husky Classic, senior Anna Petr broke the school record in the women's mile with a time of 4:39.03. She placed 15th within the event at the Husky Classic and her time ranks second in the Mountain West so far this season.

Lastly, sophomore Maria Kimpson cleared a mark of 4.13 meters in the women's pole vault which ties the current school record held by teammate Celyn Stermer. Kimpson placed fifth in the women's pole vault at the Don Kirby Invitational and her mark ranks first in the conference so far this season.

Also at the Don Kirby Invitational, Tereza Babica placed 23rd in the women's 60-meter hurdles invitational with a time of 6.87 seconds, just .01 off her personal best time. In the men's 60-meter invitational, Cole Nordman ran a time of 6.76 seconds in the qualifying round and then shaved .01 off his time in the final heat, placing sixth with the time of 6.75 seconds.

Two more Rams claimed personal best times at the Husky Classic, including Ryan Birkmeier who finished sixth in the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:50.01, which moves him up to fourth in Colorado State history. Teammate Calvin Banta also set a PR in the men's mile with a time of 4:06.54. Banta finished 29th among the field.

The Rams will take a weekend off from competition as they prepare for the Indoor Mountain West Championship meet which will take place back in Albuquerque February 22-24. The Colorado State women's team will look to defend its first place finish from last year's championship meet.
