Colorado State takes gold in women's distance medley relay on first day of Mountain West Championships
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State track and field team finished out day one of the 2024 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships with two podium finishes and three Rams leading the men's heptathlon. The women leave day one with an early lead in team points with 27.

The men finished four of seven heptathlon events and Rams Elijah Scott, Drew Thompson, and Mateo Munoz lead the Mountain West standings after day one of competition. Scott sits in first place so far with a total score of 3,164 points. He placed first in three of the four events including a mark of 7.04 meters in the long jump, 13.84 meters in shot put and 2.04 meters in the high jump. Â

Defending heptathlon champion Thompson scored 3,017 total points with a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02 seconds while also placing second in both the long jump (6.89m)Â and shot put (13.13m). Munoz sits in third with 2,985 points after a career-best performance in the high jump where he placed second with a mark of 1.98 meters.

Tereza Babicka finished silver in the women's pentathlon with a total score of 3,820 points which ties for the seventh best score in the Colorado State record book. She placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.57 seconds to also tie at No.11 in the CSU top 20. She secured second in the long jump with a mark of 5.72 meters and a No.17 spot in the record book. She also placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.85.Â
Following the multi events of the evening, the Colorado State women's distance medley relay team of Yasmin Austridge, Grace Gordon, Brooklyn Ewert and Anna Petr claimed the first gold medal for the Rams this weekend. With a combined time of 11:33.99, all four Rams earned their first Mountain West Championship medal.
