SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The first true road trip of the season came up empty in the standings, but Colorado State's women's tennis team comes back with some lessons from which to grow.
Â
As was the case the day prior at BYU, the Rams found themselves in some pivotal moments during games and sets and letting too many of them slip past resulted in a 7-0 loss to Utah on Sunday. Colorado State is now 3-3 on the season.
Â
"We faced tough tams this weekend and we did not play our best," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "There are small margins between us that could change the match, and we know these matches are valuable to our growth through the season. We look forward to being back at home next weekend."
Â
Just like Saturday, Colorado State dropped the doubles point as Utah won at all three lines. And like the day before, the Utes clinched it with wins at the bottom two positions. Playing out all three matches, the Rams' top tandem of Radka Buzkova and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya lost a gut-punch in a tiebreak, 7-6 (9).
Â
Colorado State however couldn't avoid the shutout, losing in straight sets at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6, with Buzkova and Sarah Weekley dropping tough three setters after each won the opening set. Buzkova, facing 59th-ranked Marcela Lopez, fell 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the top spot, while Weekley dropped a 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 decision at No. 3, their final set a 10-point tiebreaker as it came after the Utes had secured the team win.
Â
The Rams return home with a pair of matches this weekend, hosting Northern Arizona on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Colorado on Sunday (12 p.m.) With a favorable weather report for the weekend, the teams is optimistic it can play it's first outdoor duals of the season both days.
