Colorado State to send distance runners to Seattle and track and field athletes to New Mexico

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State track and field team looks toward competition in Albuquerque and Seattle this weekend ahead of the Mountain West Championships.
 
What you need to know:
  • The Don Kirby Invitational is hosted by New Mexico and will be held Friday and Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Friday's field events will start at 9 a.m. with the women's long jump. Men's long jump will follow at 10 a.m. along with the men's pole vault. 
  • Colorado State's sprinters, jumpers and throwers will compete at the Don Kirby Invitational.
  • As for Friday's track events, the men's unseeded 400-meter dash will start at 1:30, followed by the women at 1:55.
  • Saturday's field events will kick off at 9 a.m. with the women's pole vault and the men's unseeded 60-meter hurdles at 9:15 a.m. will start the track events.
  • Ram fans can follow along with the Don Kirby Invitational meet schedule here and watch all of the events unfold here. 
  • The Husky Classic is hosted by Washington and will take place at the Dempsey Indoor Facility Friday and Saturday and will welcome the Colorado State distance team.
  • Friday will start with running events at 1:30 p.m. as the Rams run at sea level for the first time this season.

Meet Notes:
  • Last weekend, the Rams competed in the Colorado Invitational hosted by Colorado University. Colorado State sent a larger roster than usual to help determine who will be competing in the Mountain West Championships which is taking place February 22-24 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • Michaela Hawkins moved to No.7 in the Colorado State record book for women's weight throw after her first-place finish with 20.68 meters. 
  • Cole Nordman continues to make a name for himself as he placed on the podium twice last weekend. Once in the first-place spot for the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.86 seconds and another one in the third-place slot for the 200 with a time of 21.59 seconds. Nordman has placed in every meet he's competed in so far this season.
  • Tyler Colwell had two top-three appearances at the Colorado Invitational. He placed first in the 60-meter dash with 6.72 seconds and second in the 200 with 21.41 seconds. He currently holds the Colorado State record for the 60-meter dash with 6.63.
  • Tereza Babicka competed in three different events at the Colorado Invitational and placed in the podium in the women's 60-meter hurdles and long jump. This was her first meet competing with Colorado State.
  • Distance runner Brooklyn Ewert was named the Mountain West Women's Freshman of the week after her personal-best performance at the Colorado Invitational last week. Ewert ran the 800-meter in 2:12.16, placing second.
