Rams Wrap Up Day One in New Mexico and Washington

Lesnar wins woman’s weight throw with personal-best mark
FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State track and field team finished day one of split competition Friday as the Ram sprinters, throwers and jumpers competed at the Don Kirby Invitational hosted by New Mexico and the Colorado State distance team competed at the Husky Classic hosted by Washington.

Junior Mya Lesnar placed first among a competitive field in the women's weight throw with a career-best mark of 21.78 meters, moving her up to third place all-time in CSU history. Teammate Michaela Hawkins finished close behind with a second-place finish and a mark of 20.91, also a career-best. Hawkins now sits sixth all-time in CSU history. Redshirt-freshman Kajsa Borrman rounded out the strong team performance from the Rams with a fifth-place finish and mark of 18.83, also a career best.

Sophomore sprinter Carsen Bruns placed third in the men's unseeded 400-meter dash with a time of 47.97 seconds, a whole second faster than his previous personal best.

Sprinter Cole Nordman continues his impressive indoor season with a second-place finish in a field of 52 athletes in the men's unseeded 200-meter dash with a time of 21.40 seconds which ties his career best time.

In Washington, at the Husky Classic, Emily Chaston ran her first career indoor 5K and finished 29th in the competitive field with a time of 16:34.48 seconds which ranks eighth all-time in CSU history. In the men's 5K, Lars Mitchel had a personal-best time of 14:01.47 which moves him up to seventh on the all-time records list.

Freshman Chris Henry finished the men's 3K with a time of 8:08.07 seconds, good for a personal-best time and the tenth-best time in CSU history. Similarly in the women's 3K, Claire Hengesbaugh recorded a career-best time of 9:19.19 second, moving her up to third all-time in the history book.

Both Ram squads will continue at their respective meets tomorrow for day two of both the Don Kirby Invitational and the Husky Classic. Both meets resuming at 9 a.m.
