CSU shot just 11-of-43 in the first three quarters

SAN JOSE, Calif. – A cold hand through the first three quarters downed Colorado State 68-56 at San Jose State on Saturday afternoon. The Rams shot just 11-of-43 through the first three quarters and it was a little-to-late despite making 9-of-13 in the final frame.

Colorado State finished shooting 36 percent from the floor and 32 percent from behind the arch. McKenna Hofschild led all scorers with 21 points and handed out five assists. She was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with nine boards.

San Jose State started the game hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to take an early lead. The Rams were down 8-0 before scoring their first bucket of the game nearly five minutes into the start. CSU trailed by as many as 11 with 3:49 left in the first frame, but back-to-back 3-pointers got the Rams' offense going to end the first frame.

Colorado State finished the first half shooting just 28 percent on 8-of-29, including 4-of-14 from deep. The Rams trailed again by 11 with 1:21 left in the second but finished the half on a 6-0 run to trail 28-23 at the break. Hofschild scored a 3-point play before Marta Leimane hit a 3-pointer.

CSU scored the first bucket of the second half before San Jose State went on a 17-1 run. The Rams trailed by 20 with 1:52 left to play in the frame before the only back-to-back scores of the third came with a Hofschild jumper and a fastbreak layup by Kinzer.

The Rams cut their deficit to 13 to start the fourth quarter, but another 7-0 run by the Spartans had them up by 20 again. CSU got within 13 with 4:22 left but couldn't get much more.

San Jose State finished shooting 39 percent from 3-point range and 47 percent from the floor on 28-of-60.

Colorado State will finish the regular season on Tuesday night hosting Boise State. The Rams will honor their seven graduating seniors pregame.
