Tournament Opens with Front Range Foe

Rams face Air Force as MW Tournament begins
LAS VEGAS – Postseason play begins this week as the Mountain West Tournament for women's tennis opens Wednesday with a trio of matches at the Darling Tennis Center.

Colorado State, the No. 6 seed, faces Air Force Wednesday to open the draw at 11 a.m. MT. The winner advances to play No. 3 Wyoming the next day. The two teams met to open conference play this season, with the Rams claiming a 5-2 victory as the match was played out.

"There is another level of excitement for the conference tournament. Our focus is the match in front of us, but we also must plan for the entire tournament," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We've seen every single team and that helps us have an idea of what we are up against. As I've said many times, we know what we are capable of.  I have full confidence in our abilities and what our players have displayed all year long. We've shown it in many moments this entire season."

CSU was 9-10 overall on the season, 5-5 in Mountain West play. Air Force finished 1-17, dropping all 10 conference matches. It also stands as a rematch in tournament play as the two met in the quarterfinals in 2023, with the Falcons grabbing a 4-3 decision. Colorado State is 5-6 in opening-round matches.

No. 8 San Jose State faces No. 9 Boise State, and No. 7 Fresno State plays No. 10 Utah State in the other two matches of the first day. Live links to scoring and video are available at the conference's championship page.

"We cannot control the outcome, but we will fight and leave our hearts out there and enjoy this experience the best we can," Tran said.
