Rams Drop Game Two to Fresno State

Colorado State unable to rally late against Bulldogs
FRESNO, Calif. -Â The Colorado State softball team fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs 5-2 in game two of the road series.

Despite outhitting the Bulldogs 10-8, a late run by the Rams left three runners stranded in the seventh inning for a total of nine runner stranded during the game, which made the difference.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the bottom of the first, but a quick response in the top of the second from the Rams tied the game with a run off the bat of Hailey Smith who scored Danielle Serna.

Serna returned to the circle the next inning to throw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third.

Fresno State extended its lead with four unanswered runs through the fourth and fifth inning, three of the four runs came via a two-out hit in back-to-back innings.

The Rams had a chance to extend the game during their last at-bats in the top of the seventh inning. After Colorado State earned bases loaded with three straight hits from Sydney Hornbuckle, Brooke Bohlender and Ashley York, a fourth straight hit from Maya Matsubara plated a run and kept the bases loaded, still with no outs.

That's when the Fresno State coaching staff opted to make their second pitching stage of the day taking out Taylor Gilmore, a former Ram, and reinserting the Bulldog's starting pitcher Serayah Neiss.

Neiss reentered to retire three Rams in a row in the heart of the lineup to seal the game two win for Fresno State.

Ashley York finished the day with two hits for the Rams along with Hornbuckle and Bohlender while Serna finished the complete game with a strikeout and nine groundouts.

Colorado State will finish the series with Fresno State Sunday at 11 a.m.
