Rams End Season on Loss to Nevada at Mountain West Tournament

Smith finishes final at-bat as a Ram with a home run
BOISE, Idaho -Â The Colorado State softball team finished its season Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament, falling to No. 3 Nevada 2-1.

The fourth matchup of the season between the Rams and the Wolf Pack started as a slow burn, pitching driven matchup, which wasn't expected of two of the top offensive teams in the conference, but starting pitchers Danielle Serna for Colorado State and Blake Craft for Nevada kept both offensives at bay until the fourth inning.

Serna threw three strikeouts in three innings to start the game, only surrendering two hits.
Â
Nevada added its first run in the fourth inning thanks to a two-out double which scored Aaliyah Jenkins from second.
Â
The Wolf Pack added one more insurance run in the fifth inning when Bailie Clark hit an inside the park home run when a ball tailed off the right center wall. The play at the plate was as close as it could be, going to video review when ultimately there was not enough evidence to overturn the original call of safe.

The Rams went into the top of the seventh inning trailing by two runs. Senior Hailey Smith cut the lead to one with a solo home run in what would end up being her final collegiate at-bat.

Now within one, Nevada was able to shut down any late game momentum from the Rams, ending the game two-outs later to advance to round two of the tournament by a score of 2-1.

The Rams finished their season saying thank you to their nine seniors, wrapping up another year of Ram Softball.
