Rams Wrap Up Day One of Mountain West Championship

Both teams rank second place after day one

FRESNO, Calif. - The Colorado State track and field team wrapped up day one of the 2024 Outdoor Mountain West Championship Meet Thursday with both the men's and women's team ranking second in team points after day one.
 
Mya Lesnar claimed the first championship of the meet for the Rams with a 62.00 meter winning mark in the women's hammer throw. Notching the throw on her final attempt, the mark ranks just under her season high of 63.74 which ranks 25th in the nation so far this season.
 
The Rams scored 16 points from the women's hammer throw with Kajsa Boorman finishing fourth with a mark of 59.10 meters and Klaire Kovatch finishing eighth with a mark of 54.94 meters.
 
Jackson Morris also claimed bronze in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 63.13 meters.
 
Senior Quinn McConnell recorded the best qualifying time in the women's 800 meter prelims with a time of 2:06.42 seconds, punching her ticket to the final heats set for Saturday. Ryan Birkmeier and Cal Banta both qualified in the men's 800 meter prelims as well.
 
Also punching his ticket to the finals in the men's 100 meter is sophomore Tyler Colwell who qualified with a time of 21.12 seconds.
 
Carsen Bruns and Neya Jamison will represent the Rams in their respective finals of the 400 meter hurdles with Jamison qualifying second while Bruns qualified in sixth.
 
In the final events of the night, Sarah Carter won gold in the women's 10K with a time of 34:00.70 seconds while Mason Brown placed third in the men's 10K with a time of 29:32.28 seconds.
 
The Rams will kick off day two of the championship meet with the final events of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. Colorado State's Mauricio Galindo Vega leads the way in the men's decathlon with 3,790 points while Tereza Babicka ranks fourth with 3,061 points through four events in the heptathlon.
