Tournament play now mixed with individual highlights
FORT COLLINS – A change in college tennis this fall is a lean toward individual achievement, leading to some recognizable changes in the Colorado State's fall schedule in 2024.
Â
Complete with nine possible dates, fourth-year coach Mai-Ly Tran has her Rams competing in a mix of events, including the traditional home appearance with the Jon Messick Invitational the final weekend of September. The primary event with an individual focus will come the following weekend at the Mountain West Fall Individuals, held Oct.2-5 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Â
"We are excited to see our new group compete at our upcoming fall competitions. Â The fall is a great time to see where our players have improved from the summer and see what we'll want to work on in preparation for the spring season," Tran said. "This fall will also provide unique opportunities for all our players individually to qualify for regional tournaments and NCAAs. Â We're excited to get to work and build on our momentum from last year."
Â
Colorado State, coming off a semifinal showing in the Mountain West Tournament, opens the fall with a trip to the Air Force Academy for the Bedford Cup. The team will also attend the ITA Regionals (Oct. 17-22) in Las Cruces, N.M. and the Watanabe Classic in a return trip to Las Vegas on Nov. 8-10.
Â
Other possible dates (depending on qualification) will be the ITA All-American Championships (Sept. 21-29), the ITA Sectionals (Nov. 7-10) and the NCAA Individual Championships (Nov. 19-24).
Â
The Rams have five returning players, led by All-Mountain West doubles selection Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya. Sarah Weekley, Luana Avelar, Victoria Erechtchenko and Logan Voeks also return to a team on a three-year run of double-digit dual victories.
