GAME NOTES

  • Opposing offenses are in for a Long night when they play the Rams as Colorado State linebacker Owen Long is leading the nation in tackles per game with 12.9. Even more impressive, Long is averaging 0.8 tackles more than the next closest player in FBS. The numbers have garnered national recognition as Long was named an AP Midseason All-America Second Team selection on Oct. 15. Just a sophomore, Long was elected the youngest captain ever on a Jay Norvell coached team prior to the start of the season.
  • Through five games this season, the Colorado State offense has been clinical in a key area: red zone efficiency. Colorado State scored a touchdown on just 54.5% of red zone trips in 2024, which ranked 104th nationally. This year the Rams have been much more efficient, reaching the end zone on 75.0% of trips to the red zone which is top 12 in the country. The issue has been getting to the red zone, however, as the Rams rank 130th with just 20 red zone attempts.
  • Colorado State's pass defense has an ace in the hole in cornerback Lemondre Joe. The grad transfer from Missouri State has been putting opposing receivers on an island, tied for the national lead with 11 pass breakups.
  • Colorado State's stable of running backs has been highly efficient this season, with four backs in rotation to keep the legs fresh. Freshman Jalen Dupree (5.1 ypc) and sophomores Lloyd Avant (5.6) and Justin Marshall (6.8) are all averaging more than five yards per carry, giving the Rams a plethora of options in the backfield. Dupree leads the room in volume (89 carries) and logged the first 100-yard game of his career on the road against San Diego State. Dupree leads Colorado State in explosive plays this season with eight, including seven rushes of 15 or more yards.
  • Injuries have not been kind to Colorado State this season, leading to a big shakeup in the depth chart. The Rams are down six week-one starters for the remainder of the season, with five being on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Colorado State saw massive shakeup in the offensive line that allowed just 10 sacks and ranked No. 4 nationally in 2024. With the departures of staples Jacob GardnerDrew Moss and Saveyon Henderson, in addition to the season-ending injury of Tanner Morley, CSU is down to just one returning starter in the front five. CSU has allowed 22.0 sacks already this season, which is among the bottom 25 in the country.
