Rams Fall to Rebels on Snow Days

Team hits road for next two weeks

FORT COLLINS – UNLV came into Saturday's game at Canvas Stadium with the top-scoring offense in the Mountain West, and the Rebels lived up to their reputation in a 42-10 victory over Colorado State.

The Rams led 10-7 in the second quarter before UNLV reeled off 35 unanswered points, fueled by eight explosive plays on the night. The Rams fell to 2-7 (1-4 Mountain West), while UNLV snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 7-2 (3-2).

Colorado State found the quick start it was hoping for, scoring a touchdown on the opening drive with the defense responding with a stop.

The Rams opened with a 13-play, 75-yard march which needed a fourth-down conversion to complete. On fourth-and-goal from the 3, Jackson Brousseau found Rocky Beers in the end zone for the early lead, the tight end's fourth scoring reception of the season.

UNLV countered with a 21-point second quarter however, fueled by two big runs by Jai'den Thomas. The first was a scoring run of 57 yards, later peeling off a 59-yard romp to set up a 5-yard touchdown run by quarterback Anthony Colandrea. After CSU was stopped on fourth-and-short from its own 39, the Rebels tacked on with a 6-yard run by Jaylen Glover with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Colorado State's only points of the second came on a 23-yard field goal by Isaiah Hankins, and the half ended with him not getting off an attempt on a fire-drill chance with time running out as the snap was muffed.

UNLV amassed 572 yards of total offense in a balanced attack as Colandrea threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns. He was part of the Rebels' 321 yards on the ground, scoring twice while gaining 33. Thomas led with 131 yards on just seven carries. It was the first time since 2022 that the Rams allowed more than 300 yards rushing to an opponent (Air Force, 359).

  • Coin Toss/Result: UNLV won the toss and deferred.

  • Picking It: Jace Bellah intercepted his fourth pass of the season in the first quarter, nabbing a deflected ball in the end zone to end a UNLV drive. The last Ram to have four interceptions in a season was current CSU coach Trent Matthews, in 2013.
