Rams fall to Missouri

Fight falls short in second match of weekend
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Fighting to stay in the game is nearly as important as winning.
 Â
Colorado State women's tennis went into Sunday's match with Missouri knowing the Tigers would have a two-point advantage. Ultimately, the Rams dropped the match finishing with a 4-0 score. Â
Â
Missouri only had to win one doubles match for the doubles point which the Tigers did when they defeated Colorado State's top pairing, Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarah Weekley, 6-0. Â
Â
The other doubles match finished 6-4 in favor of Logan Voeks and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya at No. 2, the lone match CSU won on the day. Missouri won the first two singles matches at Nos. 4 and 5 and abandoned the final three singles matches.
Â
"We have a lot of work to do," coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We were not disciplined and that is what we need to better at, mentally and physically."Â
Â
The two Tigers who won their matches were Zoe Lazar and Gian Octa. Lazar faced off against Mariya Dobreva, winning 6-1, 6-5 and Octa defeated Logan Voeks 6-4, 6-0. Â
Â
Sarah Weekley was the only Ram to win one of the sets in her singles match, finishing 6-4, 4-3.
Â
After dropping a match to Minnesota on Saturday, the team was looking to improve regardless of the quick turnaround. While the Rams' improvements weren't enough to win the day, the Rams had a lot more back and forth today, fighting to keep the scores close.Â
Â
"Theres always room for growth and we have to go back home and get back to work and be intentional," Tran said.Â
Â
The Rams come back this week, hosting BYU at the Fort Collins Country Club on Friday (3:30 p.m.)
