Several Rams Claim Top Spots as Kimpson Sets All-Time Record

Kimpson now holds outdoor and indoor records in pole vault.

FORT COLLINS – After four days of track and field events, Colorado State track and field wrapped up its Saturday at the Beach Invitational. 
 
Beach Invitational (Long Beach, Calif) 
  • The Colorado State indoor record holder in the pole vault can now lay claim to the outdoor title. Maria Kimpson recorded an outstanding 4.30-meters/14-feet-1.25 today to take Colorado State's outdoor record. Kimpson's vault today took first place and ranks 24th in the country. 
  • Taking home first place in the shot put was former indoor national champion Mya Lesnar. Lesnar finished with a massive 18.44/60-6 to record her top mark of the outdoor season. 
  • The Rams claimed another first-place finish with Travis Turner in the 400 running a time of 46.85. The freshman was the only runner in the field to finish under 47 seconds, finishing just shy of his personal best. On the women's side, Lily Krob recorded an outdoor personal best of 57.85. 
  • Klaire Kovatch once again impressed in the discus, this time recording a 57.06/187-2. Kovatch's mark finished second on the day and ranks just shy of her personal best. The do-it-all thrower ranks 12th in the nation for discus. Fellow Ram, Makayla Long set a personal best 52.99/173-10, placing her in the top 50 in the country. 
  • Finishing sixth place and setting a personal best in the shot put was surging sophomore Leonardo Ramos-Valles (17.55/ 57-7). The CSU-Pueblo transfer has been rapidly improving, launching into the CSU all-time record books. Also finishing with a personal best was freshman Alex Jensen with a mark of 16.80/55-1.5.  
  • Both Adam Hellbom and Ramos recorded personal bests in the discus toss with throws of 49.23/161-6 and 49.07/161, respectively. 
  • Cole Nordman recorded a personal best in the 110 hurdlers for the second week in a row running a 14:01. Nordman now moves into a tie for fourth all time in the event.  
  • Neya Jamison finished second place in the 400 hurdles, recording a personal best of 58.46. Jamison, who came into the week ranking 49th in the country, now finds herself in the top 40. Also setting a personal best in the 400 hurdles was freshman Grace Lanfear with a 1:01.57.  
  • Sophomore Mary Schultz finished sixth in the 800, recording a personal best 2:13.66. The sophomore's time finished just shy of the top 20 all time for Colorado State.  
 
Looking Ahead 
  • Colorado State prepares for the "Border Duel" against Wyoming. The event takes place on Saturday April 26th on home soil at the Jack Christiansen Track.
