Track and Field Readies for Border Dual with Wyoming

Colorado State poised for first iteration of the “Border Dual”.

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field looks towards a two-week homestand, in an effort to prepare for the looming Mountain West Outdoor Championships. The first of the two meets at the Jack Christiansen Track Complex provides the unique opportunity for the Rams to directly compete against their rival, Wyoming, with the two programs squaring off in a traditional dual meet.

MEET NOTES 
  • The Border Dual marks the penultimate meet of the regular outdoor season, with another home bout, the Doug Max Invitational, being the finale. This year's Border Dual is the first of its kind, adding another chapter to the storied history between Colorado State and Wyoming.  
  • The meet will be scored by traditional 5-3-1 dual meet scoring, awarding five points to first, three to second and one point to third. A handful of University of Colorado athletes will be competing as well, but will not be factored into the meet scoring.
  • Finding themselves in the top echelons of outdoor track and field is a handful of Rams, including jumper Ismael Dembele. Dembele ranks 14th in the nation in the triple jump and is just outside of the top 50 in the long jump. Adam Hellbom also sits right outside the top 50, ranking 52nd in the hammer throw. 
  • On the women's side, four throwers rank in the top 50. Included in this group is both Kajsa Borrman and Mya Lesnar in the hammer throw ranking ninth and 34th, respectively. Klaire Kovatch sits 14th in the discus, while Borrman and Makayla Long sit on the bubble at 51st and 56th, respectively. The shot put has two Ram's comfortably in the top 50 in Lesnar (fourth) and Long (32nd). 
  • Multi's athlete Tereza Babicka also breaks into the top 50, ranking 42nd in the heptathlon. Joining her in this elite cohort is pole vaulter Maria Kimpson, whose program-record-breaking mark last week of 4.30-meters/14-feet-1.25 ranks 26th. Neya Jamison sits right at 50 in the 400 hurdles after her personal best last weekend.
