Senior forward sets all-time marks in packed second half
LOGAN, Utah — Two records set in one night. Little did the Rams know they only needed one half to do it all. Colorado State soccer opened Mountain West play with a 1-all draw at Utah State on Thursday night. The Aggies entered ranked No. 1 in the conference preseason poll while CSU was picked two behind them and the teams played to an even result.
Utah State held most of the momentum in the first half and scored in the 42nd minute to take the lead. After the break, senior forward Olivia Fout made history by netting CSU's first shot of the game in the 51st minute. The goal not only equalized the match but also made her the program's all-time leader in both goals (20) and points (46), surpassing Caeley Lordemann (2017–19).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams spent much of the first half pinned in their own half, struggling to generate offense while goalkeeper Gray Willson turned away early chances. Willson made four saves in the first half before Utah State's breakthrough in the 42nd minute gave the Aggies a 1-0 edge.
The second half opened with a surge from CSU. Fout tied the match in the 51st minute with the Rams' first shot of the night, then quickly added another attempt as the attack found rhythm. Michaela McGowan and Mia Massey both followed with chances during the stretch. Utah State created three shots in the second half, but Willson produced two more saves, including a key stop in the 88th minute, to preserve the draw.
CSU NOTABLES
Colorado State continues its Mountain West road swing Sunday, Sept. 28, at Boise State. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. MT.
