Missed Shots Hurt Rams in San Diego

CSU men’s basketball fell to San Diego State
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Going into Viejas Arena, opponents know they have to be at the top of their game. For Colorado State men's basketball, they were unable to connect on open shots and committed too many turnovers, falling to the Aztecs 73-50.
How it Happened
CSU started the game strong, making some shots and getting shots. Rashaan Mbemba used great footwork to open the scoring. Jase Butler and Kyle Jorgensen followed it up with a pair of 3s to put the Rams up 8-2 early.
SDSU proceeded to go on its first run of the game. An 11-0 run over six minutes saw San Diego State seize the lead. Colorado State turned the ball over four times during it.
An 8-0 run late in the first half saw the Aztecs grow its lead to double figures, but CSU fought back in the final 90 seconds to be down six at the break.
The Rams were unable to get off to a fast start in the second half and keep the momentum going. Instead an 8-0 and 9-0 run separated by a pair of CSU 3-pointers ballooned the SDSU lead to 17.
From there, CSU continued to fight and get open looks, but they never fell. The Aztecs were in control the rest of the way.

- Wednesday's game was the first since December 19, 2020, against Saint Mary's that the Rams did not have a double-figure scorer.
- CSU shot a season low 33.3% on the night.
- When the Rams made shots, it was due to good ball movement, recording 11 assists on 16 makes.
