CSU meets the Bulldogs for the first time as conference opponents Thursday before a Sunday trip to face the Aztecs

FORT COLLINS -- Colorado State soccer continues its inaugural Pac-12 season this week, hosting Gonzaga for an Orange Out on Thursday before traveling to San Diego State on Sunday.

Thursday's match at CSU Soccer Field kicks off at 4 p.m. Sunday's match at the SDSU Sports Deck in San Diego is set for 1 p.m. MT.

Series History: Gonzaga

Thursday marks the third meeting between the programs and the first as conference opponents. Gonzaga won the previous two, 2-0 in Fort Collins on Sept. 13, 2018, and 2-1 in Spokane on Aug. 29, 2019. Seven years is a long time between handshakes.

Series History: San Diego State

Sunday is the 15th meeting between the former Mountain West rivals. San Diego State leads the series 10-1-3 and had the last word in 2025, ending CSU's season with a 1-0 result in the Mountain West Tournament. Ten days earlier, the teams played to a 2-2 draw in Fort Collins.

The Rams are 1-5 in San Diego. The one is worth remembering: a 2-0 win on Sept. 22, 2022. CSU also advanced past the Aztecs on penalty kicks, 3-2, after a scoreless draw in the 2023 Mountain West Tournament semifinals.

Scouting the Bulldogs

Gonzaga (5-5-2, 0-1-0 Pac-12) opened conference play Sunday with a 3-0 loss at Boise State. The match was scoreless at halftime before the Broncos scored three times after the break and finished with a 14-5 edge in shots. Sydney Head made four saves in goal.

The Bulldogs entered that match unbeaten in four straight, a run that included a 3-0 win at Creighton and a 4-0 win over Montana. They scored 22 goals in 11 nonconference matches. Gonzaga and CSU share one common result, as each fell 1-0 to Wyoming in September.

Head coach Katie Benz has three players on the Pac-12 Preseason Impact List: midfielder Amelia Severn, forward Samantha Snorsky and defender Makayla Werner. Severn leads the Bulldogs with seven goals and 19 points, and Snorsky has six goals and four assists. The two have combined for 13 of Gonzaga's 22 goals.

Scouting the Aztecs

San Diego State enters the week at 7-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Pac-12 play. The Aztecs dropped their conference opener to Boise State, 4-1, then answered Sunday with a 1-0 road win over No. 22 Texas State, outshooting the Bobcats 22-9.

The Aztecs have scored 23 goals and allowed nine through 11 matches. Midfielder Katie Senn leads the team with five goals, and goalkeeper Kailey Carlen has four shutouts. Both were named to the Preseason Impact List alongside defender Lily Boudet.

Huber Holding the Line

Addison Huber made nine saves Sunday against No. 19 Utah State, seven of them in a scoreless first half. Nine is tied for the sixth-most in a single match in program history, and no Ram had reached that number since Libby Brooker did it in the 2024 Mountain West Tournament semifinals. The opponent that day was also Utah State. The Aggies are consistent, if nothing else.

The sophomore, in her first season as a starter, has 47 saves through 12 matches. She sits four shy of the program's single-season top 10 and 13 from matching the sixth-best total in program history. Huber made five saves three days earlier at Fresno State, giving her 14 through two Pac-12 matches.

Quick Kicks

The Rams (2-8-2, 1-1-0 Pac-12) split their first week of conference play. Thursday's 2-1 win at Fresno State was the first Pac-12 victory in program history.

Shadia Valenzuela delivered the winner with under four minutes to play, her first goal of the season. Mia Casey opened the scoring in the first half off assists from Skylar Alonso and Danielle Charleston.

CSU doubled Fresno State in shots, 18-9, and held an 11-5 edge in corner kicks.

Ten of CSU's 12 matches have been decided by one goal or ended level.
