The Colorado State softball team and head coach Michelle Gascoigne announced the addition of assistant coach Jake Long to her inaugural coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season
 
This addition comes as Colorado State prepares for the program's inaugural season as a new member of the Pac-12 conference. 

“Jake is a Colorado native that brings high level experience in working with infielders as well as hitting and analytics,” Gascoigne said. “We are excited to have Jake bring his knowledge back home to Colorado and complete our staff as a Ram!”
 
“I am incredibly grateful to Coach Gascoigne for the opportunity to return home to Colorado and join the Colorado State Softball program and this outstanding coaching staff,” Long said. “I am excited to build upon the strong foundation and success that has already been established and look forward to contributing to the continued growth and achievement of the program.”

More on Long:
  • Long joins the coaching staff with experience from the University of Florida as a grad assistant and most recent from Fordham University where he served as assistant coach during the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
  • Long brings playing experience from Regis university in Denver, while being a Colorado native originally from Broomfield.
  • At Florida, he supported the coaching staff in planning and executing practices and managing game-day operations while also conducted video and statistical analysis to generate strategic insights for coaching decisions
  • Most recently at Fordham, he served as the infield and co-hitting coach boasting the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, three all conference players and finished ranked 62nd nationally in team fielding percentage.
  • Bring NCAA Tournament coaching experience to the table as well, Long coaches with Florida through the 2024 WCWS Semi-Finals while qualifying for the Fayetteville Regional in 2026 with Fordham.
