Jen Fisher has been at the helm of the Colorado State softball program since 2010, where she has guided her alma mater back to prominence in the Mountain West and become the winningest coach in school history with more than 351 career victories.
Fisher’s signature season came in 2019, when she led the Rams to a 39-12 overall record and an 18-6 Mountain West mark to capture the program’s second MW regular-season title. Picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll, CSU instead remained atop the standings all year, winning seven league series, including its first-ever sweep of Fresno State, and stringing together a program-record 20 consecutive wins. Along the way, the Rams earned victories over Stanford, Utah, No. 16 Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Syracuse. The championship season ended with CSU’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003, highlighted by the Rams’ first NCAA win since 1997 — a 6-0 shutout of Harvard in the Tucson Regional. Fisher was named Mountain West Coach of the Year for the second time, while Amber Nelson was voted Player of the Year and a record six players earned NFCA All-Region honors.
Fisher’s impact has remained strong in recent years. In 2024, she guided Colorado State through a competitive 47-game season, including 21 home contests at Ram Field. The Rams showcased one of the best offensive lineups in program history, finishing with a team batting average of .323 and an OPS near .934, marks that ranked among the highest in CSU record book history. Several players posted standout seasons: Maya Matsubara hit .401 with 57 hits and 34 RBI; Molly Gates added a .385 average; and Ashley York (.371) and Peyton Allen (.355) provided additional power in the lineup.
The 2024 campaign reinforced Fisher’s ability to develop deep, balanced rosters and maintain CSU’s identity as a competitive force in the Mountain West. Her teams continue to thrive both on the field and in the classroom, with double-digit Academic All-Mountain West honorees each year. From 2022 through 2025, Fisher’s coaching has continued to produce top-tier talent, with multiple Rams earning Mountain West All-Conference honors each season. The program also saw several players recognized as NFCA All-Region performers, showing the depth and consistency of talent she developed. Across these four seasons, Colorado State has regularly had three to six players per year receive conference recognition, which highlights Fisher’s ability to coach athletes who excel on the field while maintaining the program’s standard of excellence.
Fisher’s impact has extended beyond a single season. She has engineered turnarounds, guided multiple winning campaigns, and developed a culture of excellence both on and off the field. Her second year in 2012 produced one of the best single-season improvements in CSU history, vaulting the Rams from an 8-43 record her first season to 29-22 and a second-place conference finish. That year, she earned her first Mountain West Coach of the Year award. From 2012–14, CSU tied for second place twice and battled for a title on the final day in 2014.
Her coaching team now includes her own family. In Fall of 2024, Fisher’s son Garrett joined the staff as an assistant coach working with catchers, alongside assistants Brett Bogner and Taylor Gilmore.
Before Fisher’s time at Colorado State, she left Otero Junior College to resurrect a Metro State program that was slated to resume competition in 2008 after being disbanded in 1990. Using her consistent approach to the game, Fisher's winning ways continued immediately as the head coach of the Roadrunners.
In three seasons at the NCAA Division II level, Fisher guided the program from infancy to 125 wins, while surrendering just 36 ballgames.
In 2008, Metro State's first season of competition, Fisher posted a record of 32-18 (26-11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference), laying the foundation for the next two seasons, which would feature back-to-back postseason appearances. The squad ranked first in the DII national standings for doubles (2.06 per game), first for home runs (1.58 per game), and second for slugging percentage (.573).
Metro State's 2009 squad went 40-12 (29-7 RMAC) behind the guidance of Fisher, the conference Coach of the Year. The team again ranked first in the national standings for home runs (1.88 per game) with a DII record-tying 98 total, and first for slugging percentage (.636). Fisher led the Roadrunners to the RMAC regular-season and tournament championships, earning an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
Just when the Roadrunners appeared to have reached the pinnacle of their success, Fisher took her squad to new heights. In 2010, the team took the nation by storm, posting a record of 53-6 (37-2 RMAC), earning back-to-back regular-season and tournament conference titles. The squad ranked first nationally for home runs (1.9 per game) for the third straight year with 112 total, breaking its own record from 2009. Fisher once again was named league Coach of the Year, and following a run to the NCAA Central Region title and a Women's College World Series berth, Fisher captured CaptainU National Coach of the Year honors while her staff was tabbed as the NFCA Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
A Fort Collins native, Fisher starred in softball, basketball, and tennis at Rocky Mountain High School before playing collegiately at Creighton and Colorado School of Mines, where she captained the Orediggers in 1994. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a teaching license from CSU in 1997. Through every stop, Fisher has emphasized academics, community engagement, and player development. These values remain central to CSU softball’s identity today.
