Thanks in part to a donations from Lafarge North America Inc. as well as department funds and last spring?s Rams Softball fund raiser, the Mountain West Conference Tournament Champion Rams have added a brand new batting cage and bull pen to the facilities at Ram Field.
The addition of the new cages, which measure 90 feet by 55 feet and has an Astroturf surface, is the single biggest upgrade to the field, since a new playing surface was added after the flood of 1997.
?We are very excited to have these new cages,? said head coach Mary Yori. ?It is going to be a good training and practice area for us.?
The new addition, which was built over the old bull pen along the third base side of the field, includes two batting tunnels, and a new bull pen area that accommodates two pitchers, as well as an additional area for hitting stations and a storage shed.
?Within the last three years, we have added both indoor and outdoor cages to improve our facilities,? added Yori. ?They will help us in our training.?
Colorado State will play host to the 2004 Mountain West Conference Tournament on May 13-15 at Ram Field.
