CSU Softball Inks Two Players

The Colorado State softball program signed two student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent today. Softball Head Coach Mary Yori announced the addition of Anjelica Espinoza and Ashtin Williamson.
Espinoza, a shortstop, will join the Rams in the fall of 2005 from Chandler, Ariz., and Dobson High School.
?I?m very happy to have Espinoza joining Colorado State,? stated Yori. ?Anjelica plays on the best team in Arizona and brings a lot of versatility and speed to the Rams program. She has a strong arm and a very good bat and will fill a huge void left in the infield due to the graduation of seniors Brittany Burtner and Stephanie Roberts.?
Dobson currently ranks first in the state with a record of 22-3 and Espinoza has already broken the school?s doubles record with 14 midway through the season. She was a Second Team All-State selection in 2004 and was an East Valley First-Team All-Region selection who is batting .488 in 2005. In the summer, Espinoza plays for the Arizona Suncats, the same team that Kim Klabough and Renee Welty play for that signed during the early signing period last fall. The trio led the team to a second-place finish at the 16-under ASA Nationals.
Williamson, an outfielder from Loveland High School, will also join the Rams in the fall of 2005.
She has been honored as the 2004 Loveland Reporter-Herald Player of the Year, a 2004 member of the All-State team and All-Colorado team, as well as the 2004 Denver Post Player of the Year. She currently leads 5A in stolen bases and already holds the career record for stolen bases at Loveland halfway through her senior year. Last month, Williamson was named the 2005 Colorado Sportswoman of the Year for softball.
?Ashtin is very fast and hits with both speed and power,? Yori said. ?She has great speed on the bases, which will really balance the bigger hitters we signed in the fall. She has been named All-World and we?re very excited to have her joining the Rams.?
During the fall, the Rams signed four student-athletes. Klabough and Welty, mentioned above, along with Jenna Wisely, Fort Collins, Colorado (Fort Collins), Second Base and Shannon Causgrove, Laguna Niguel, California (Santa Margarita Catholic), Catcher, Outfielder.
?We feel really good about this whole class,? continued Yori. ?This is a very balanced class and the six of them should add a good mix of players to a solid returning core of players from this season?s team.?
The signing period continues until May 18 for both men?s and women?s basketball and until August 1 for all the other sports except football.
