Rams Finish the 2004-2005 Season
The Colorado State tennis team finished the 2004-05 season with a 15-9 record, marking the team?s most dual victories in the program?s history. It also marks the second time the Rams have had back-to-back winning seasons. The last time was from 1998 to 2001 when they had three winning seasons in a row.
Ram tennis finished fifth in the Mountain West Conference for the second time in a row by defeating Wyoming and Utah in the consolation bracket moving their record against league opponents to 4-6 on the year.
Colorado State returns five players from this year?s team in 2005-06 while adding three regionally-ranked prep stars for next season as well. CSU?s Dasha Zhurin and Alex Paganetti will both retire from the collegiate ranks after 13-15 and 19-8 records, respectively, in their senior seasons.
Ram Tennis wins consolation round of the MWC Championship
The Colorado State women?s tennis team won the consolation round of the Mountain West Conference Championship by defeating Wyoming 4-0 and Utah 4-1 in San Diego, Calif. last weekend. The Rams finish the season 15-9, marking the most season dual wins in the history of the program.
CSU?s Alex Paganetti, Carla Pallares and Anne Andersen each went 2-0 against the Cowgirls and Utes to lead the Rams their fifth-place finish. Jessica Jones added a victory versus Utah, while Ram doubles teams captured the point versus Wyoming but dropped the decision to Utah.
Emily Kirchem is named to the All-MWC team
Colorado State sophomore Emily Kirchem was named to the all-Mountain West Conference women?s tennis team. The award marks the second all-MWC selection of her career at CSU.
Kirchem, a native of Fairview, Ore., compiled a 20-11 overall singles record on the year including a 14-5 mark at the No. 2 spot and a 2-1 record at No. 1. Kirchem posted a 4-3 mark in Mountain West play in 2005 including a three-set win over New Mexico?s Maja Kovacek who was tabbed as the league?s co-player of the year.
In doubles play, Kirchem teamed with Anne Andersen and Dasha Zhurin for a 16-14 record at the No. 1 position.
This season she was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week twice early in the year.
