Rams Drop Two To UNLV

The Colorado State softball team fell to 0-4 this season against the UNLV Rebels, dropping a doubleheader in Las Vegas on Friday evening. The Rams fell 8-0 in six innings in game one, followed by a 3-1 game two defeat. The Rams move to 29-18 overall and 8-6 in Mountain West Conference play with the pair of losses.
The Rams were out-hit in game one by a 10-3 margin. Junior Jennifer Gardner finished the game hitting 2-for-2, while freshman Lauren Cusick wemt 1-for-3, as the Rams were shutout by the Rebels for the second time this season.
Sophomore Jessica Strickland fell to 11-7 on the season, allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings, while striking out three batters. Strickland also gave up her first home run in conference play in the fourth inning. Junior Genevieve Kelly pitched 1.1 innings in relief of Strickland and allowed three runs on two hits.
In game two, the Rams once again only recorded three hits. Strickland finished 2-for-3 in the game, and hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the Rams? final inning to put Colorado State on the board. Freshman Julia Kloppe added the Ram?s other hit, finishing 1-for-3 from the plate.
Junior JayCee Wood (3-3) got the start in the circle for the Rams in game two. Wood allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two batters in the losing effort.
The Rams will look to bounce back against the San Diego State Aztecs on Sunday afternoon. The doubleheader against SDSU, which will by televised nationally by CSTV, will be the Rams first television appearance in program history.
