The No. 5 seeded Colorado State University softball team (26-26, 6-15 MWC) lost to the No. 2 seeded BYU Cougars (41-19, 16-6 MWC) on Friday afternoon in Las Vegas, Nev. The Cougars edged out Colorado State, 3-1, to end the Rams season.
"We competed well today, we just fell short," Colorado State Head Coach Mary Yori said. "They got key hits to drive in a couple runs." The Cougars broke the scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 3-0 lead. The Rams battled back in the fifth when senior Tara Harbert scored on an RBI single from sophomore Lauren Cusick. Harbert led the Rams, going 4-for-4 from the plate with a run.
Freshman Kim Klabough pitched the complete game for the Rams, falling to 14-9 on the season. She allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out two batters. "I thought (Kim) Klabough pitched well and I thought we played good defense. Summer (Tobias) pitched a good game against us and shut us down. She had her change-up working and we couldn't put hits together," Yori added.
