CSU Tennis Wins Third Straight, Finishes Spring Break Trip Undefeated

Hilton Head, S.C.-The Colorado State women's tennis team swept the Bucknell Bison for their third consecutive 7-0 victory. The Rams now hold a 4-4 dual record in 2007.
In doubles play, at the No. 1 position, Kirchem/Tyler earned their sixth win of the season having defeated Gamboa/Calcaterra, 8-5. At No. 2, Neal/Strasburger beat Varela/Globerman, 8-2, and are now 4-3 in 2007. At No. 3 doubles, Satherlie/Xu competed as doubles partners for the first time this season, and earned a victory over Baffa/Weissand, 8-2.
For the third straight match, the Rams took all six singles points. At No. 1, Emily Kirchem beat Paulina Gamboa, 6-0, 6-0; she now holds a 3-1 record. At No. 2 singles, Lauren Strasburger moved to 5-2 this season after defeating Tania Varela, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Laura Neal moved to 6-2 with her win over Ashley Gloverman, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4, Hilary Tyler improved to 5-3 this season with her victory over Carlin Calcaterra, 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 5 position, Anette Pohjalainen won her fourth straight singles match, defeating JoAnna Grossman, 6-0, 6-1; she is 7-1 in dual play. At No. 6, Kirsten Stople earned her first victory of 2007, having beat Renee Weissand, 6-0, 6-0.
"Today was our most productive day," head coach Jon Messick commented. "The players did what we asked of them, and it paid off."
The Rams return to the court March 23rd when they face Cal State Northridge in Las Vegas, Nevada.
