FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior Kandy Beemer led the Rams with 11 points, including a 3-for-4 performance from 3-point range, while junior Amaka Uzomah posted a career best with 10 rebounds and freshman Bonnie Barbee scored a career-high nine points, but it was not enough as the Colorado State women's basketball team (2-14, 0-3 MWC) fell to the TCU Lady Frogs (10-8, 3-1 MWC), 70-52, in front of 2,246 fans at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Carine Reimink got off to a quick start for the Rams, scoring four of the team's first eight points, and Colorado State was within one point, 9-8, with 13 minutes remaining in the first half. But a pair of TCU 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions put the Rams down seven points, 15-18.
A pair of Beemer 3-pointers - at the 10:18 and 10:01 marks - were each answered by TCU treys to keep the Rams from cutting into the Lady Frogs' lead. The second such 3-pointer from TCU sparked a 20-6 run to put the Rams down 18 points heading into halftime.
In the second half, Colorado State heated up from 3-point range. Senior Sara Hunter, who finished with eight points, and Barbee combined to shoot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc, but Colorado State was unable to cut into the TCU lead, despite improving its shooting percentage by more than 13 percent over the first-half effort. Overall, the Rams shot 37.3 percent from the field - 44 percent in the second half - while giving up an even 40 percent to the Lady Frogs.
Turnovers proved to be a deciding factor in the contest, as TCU converted 25 Colorado State turnovers into 22 points.
Defensively, the Rams held TCU's leading scorer, senior Adrianne Ross, to just five points. Helena Sverrisdottir led the Frogs in both scoring and rebounding, finishing with 20 points and eight rebounds in the contest. Lori Butler-Rayford added 14 points and six rebounds.
The Rams will return to action with a pair of home contests. Colorado State hosts Air Force at 7 p.m. on Wednesday before facing off against conference-leading Wyoming in the Border War at 2 p.m. Saturday.
