SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Colorado State softball team improved to 11-2 on the season, rallying for a 3-2 victory over a tough Nevada Wolfpack (10-5) team, after dropping a 1-0 decision to Loyola Marymount (9-3) earlier in the day.
The Rams' offense was stymied against Loyola Marymount, as senior Lauren Cusick and sophomores Ashley Munoz and Robyn Mask each recorded one of the Rams' three hits in the contest.
Loyola Marymount recorded just five hits against CSU pitcher Kim Klabough, with the eventual game winner a two-out single up the middle by LMU junior Kristen Slouber to plate Priscilla Satete, who reached on an error with one out, in the fifth inning. Klabough also struck out 10 hitters in her complete-game effort for the Rams.
The Rams' offense came to life late in the second game of the day against Nevada. With CSU trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, freshman Eranne Daugharthy singled to score Munoz and cut the Wolfpack lead to 2-1. The next batter, sophomore Kayla Kreutzman came up big with a two-RBI double to left center, plating pitcher Cayte Billman and Mask to give the Rams a 3-2 advantage.
Billman shut down the Nevada offense in the top of the seventh, forcing the Wolfpack into three groundouts to end the game and secure the complete-game victory. The senior hurler improves to 6-0 on the season, scattering nine hits and striking out four batters in the contest.
The Rams return to the diamond on Sunday morning with back-to-back games to close out the USD Tournament. First the Rams face off against Marshall at 9:30 a.m. PT, followed by a tilt with host San Diego.
