Final Stats

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State softball team lost a close game to No. 24/22 San Diego State Saturday at Ram Field. The Rams (23-17, 3-6 MWC) battled inning by inning with the Aztecs, but a late triple by SDSU made the difference in the game, and gave the Aztecs the 4-1 victory.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when SDSU scored a run on a single by Tonye McCorkle.

The Rams answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning after sophomore Robyn Mask reached on a throwing error by the SDSU shortstop and senior Lauren Cusick was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second with one out. Freshman Caitlan Stem stepped up to the plate and singled through the right side to score Mask and tie the game at one.

The game remained tied until the top of the sixth inning when Brittany Knudsen tripled to right field to score two Aztec runners and give them the 3-1 advantage.

The Aztecs added another run in the top of the seventh inning and held the Rams in the bottom half of the inning to take the 4-1 victory.

Cusick finished the game 2-for-3 and Stem finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Junior Kim Klabough started in the circle for the Rams and pitched 6.2 innings before being relieved by sophomore Rebecca Penland.

CSU and SDSU conclude the series Sunday at Ram Field at noon. The Rams will then play host to New Mexico next Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. on both days at Ram Field.
