FORT COLLINS, Colo. - - The Colorado State women's tennis team will travel to Provo, Utah, to compete in the BYU Invitational Thursday through Saturday. The Rams will face BYU, Utah, Boise State, Weber State, Utah State and Air Force in both singles and doubles competition.

The Rams got off to a tremendous start to the 2008-09 season, completing their first tournament by winning four finals at the Wyoming Invitational last Saturday. Head Coach Jon Messick was extremely pleased with his team's performance in Wyoming but believes that the BYU Invitational will pose a different challenge for his team.

"We will only be traveling with the top seven to eight players from the lineup this weekend," said Messick. "This tournament will be a tougher test for us as a whole."

At the 2007 BYU Invitational, the Rams fell in the semifinals of doubles, while earning a first- place victory in the back draw of the second singles flight. In the consolation bracket of the second singles flight, Greer Satherlie faced Cheyenne Reveche of Utah in a rematch of Round 1. Satherlie earned a win in the finals over Reveche in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, to earn the first-place victory. After falling to Reveche in Round 1, Satherlie went on to earn wins in the first-round, quarterfinals and semifinals matches of the back draw. She finished the tournament with a 4-1 record.

In doubles at last year's BYU Invitational, Laura Neal and Anette Pohjalainen ended their undefeated run with a loss in the semifinals. The duo fell to No. 3 seed Jocelyn Jensen and Dolly Chang of BYU in the semifinals, 8-1. After a first-round bye, Neal and Pohjalainen defeated Elizaveta Ezhova and Chie Hayasaka of BYU, 8-4, before earning a win over Maughan and Jane Krynchkova of Utah in an incredible come-from-behind victory in the quarterfinals.
