DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado State softball team spent Sunday with 65,000 people from around the world for the Denver Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Denver. The annual event is among the largest in the world and raises awareness and funds to support breast cancer research.
“Breast cancer has become the leading cause of death for women between the ages of 35-40, with one in eight women being diagnosed in their lifetime,” said Head Coach Mary Yori. “We felt this was an amazing cause for our student-athletes to participate in, to not only give something back to our Colorado community, but also to fight for a cause that so deeply affects women on a local, statewide and global scale.”
The Rams volunteered as course marshals, helping direct runners and walkers while supporting and cheering race participants.
“The event made my day,” said senior Sarah Sullivan. “It was such an incredible experience and truly touched thousands of peoples’ hearts.”
The Rams walked around the post-race festivities and enjoyed the day among the 65,000 registered participants before heading back to Fort Collins.
“It was a truly inspiring and unforgettable experience,” said junior Caitlan Stem. “It brings the power of a survivor and the strength of a fighter to life.”
