FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State tennis fall tournament season has been over for nearly a month and the Rams are looking forward to the upcoming spring season, beginning Jan. 22, at Denver. No player is more excited than sophomore Lauren Mulhern, who after her performance in the fall could be looking at a new role on the team.

Mulhern, a zoology major from Boise, Idaho, became one of five players to compete in all fall tournaments, after being a reserve player for much of last season due to an injury.

In her five tournaments this season, Mulhern is currently tied with teammate Caitlin Fluegge for most wins on the team with six. Mulhern also had a backdraw finals victory in the Wyoming Invitational on Sept. 25.

As impressive as her performance has been in singles competition, Mulhern has been equally impressive in doubles. Mulhern has competed with two teammates, senior Kirsten Stople and sophomore Veronika Wojakowska, earning an overall 7-4 doubles record. Most of Mulhern’s doubles success has come from teaming up with Wojakowska. The pair currently has the best record on the team, 5-2.

Mulhern took the time to sit down with CSURams.com to discuss the upcoming spring season and some personal facts.

On some personal goals for the spring season:
“Well last year I was injured, so playing on the line up; I’d really like to play top four and come out with a winning record. That would be ideal.”

On being tied with Fluegge for most wins:
“That’s awesome. Obviously a lot better than my first year, so it is improvement. Hopefully it will keep that way.”

On her role on the team changing from last year:
“Definitely. Last year, I only played one or two matches and this year I feel like I will definitely be playing in the top six for most matches.”

On her doubles performance with teammate Wojakowska:
“I love playing with her (Wojakowska); we both are really good with each other. We keep each other upbeat and don’t let each other get down. We have good chemistry together. She has a lot of heart and she is a fighter.”

On the team’s overall preseason performance:
“I think we improved a lot. We are working a lot harder than we have in the past and we are putting a lot more effort into it. We all have started to fight more.”

On her favorite tennis player:
“ Probably Steffi Graf. She is a classy player, so I like her.”

On a quirky fact that people may not know about her:
“I sing constantly; I am always singing. Oh my favorite animal is a cotton top tamarin monkey. Not many people can say that.”
