FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Head Coach Mary Yori entered Sunday's softball action with 699 career victories and earned her 700th after senior Shannon Causgrove singled in the bottom of the sixth inning to plate freshmen Jenna Krogh and Christine Thomsen and give Colorado State (21-20, 4-3 MWC) a 2-1 win over New Mexico (11-29, 2-6 MWC) in the first game of a doubleheader at Ram Field.
The Rams then defeated the Lobos in the second game of the day, 4-3, in nine innings.
New Mexico got on the board first in the top of the first inning of the second game on a pair of singles, but Colorado State answered in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Caitlan Stem singled to lead off the inning and scored when Thomsen hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Junior Allison Majam followed Thomsen with a two-run home run to right field to plate Krogh, who singled earlier in the inning.
The Rams held a 3-1 advantage until the top of the seventh when New Mexico scored two runs with two outs to tie the game.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when Stem doubled to left center with two outs. She scored the game-winning run on a single down the left field line by Krogh to give Colorado State its 21st victory of the season, fourth in conference.
Freshman Kelli Eubanks started both games in the circle for the Rams, throwing all seven innings in the first game and 5.1 innings in the second. She allowed one run in the first game on three hits while striking out eight Lobo batters and allowed one run in the second game while tallying three strikeouts.
Colorado State hosts UNLV and San Diego State next weekend at Ram Field. Friday the Rams and Rebels are scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. MDT followed by a two-game series with the Aztecs on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. MDT and Sunday's is set for 1 p.m. MDT.
