ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - - The Colorado State women's tennis team (8-13, 2-7 MWC) ended its season Thursday in the first round of the Mountain West Conference championship tournament. The Rams were defeated by No. 2 seed and No. 29 ranked TCU, 4-0.

Despite the score, Head Coach Jon Messick was pleased with his team's effort against the Horned Frogs.

"We played really well today," he said. "The last time we played them we had one close set in the whole match and that was pretty much it. Today, we had close matches at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles. We won our first sets and we had a match point at No. 4. We were really giving them a tough match at the middle of the lineup, which we didn't do last time.

"The TCU lineup was a lot stronger this time. The girl who played at the No.1 singles spot didn't play against us a few weeks ago. I am very proud of the team. We played against a tougher lineup. We didn't like that we lost but we showed great improvement and the ability to play against a top team."

In singles, the Rams had an opportunity to win two matches but were cut short after TCU earned the fourth point to clinch the match, per tournament policy.

At No. 3, true freshman Tori Arneson was able to come back against Kayla Duncan to win the first set, 6-4, after rallying back and forth in deuce. Arneson trailed in the second set, 5-1, with an opportunity to take the match into a third set. The match was stopped per tournament policy with TCU clinching its fourth team point.

Senior Greer Satherlie, playing at the No. 3 position, led Idunn Hertzberg, 6-2, 5-2, and was well on her way to an impressive victory before play ended.

The Rams finished their 2008-09 dual season with an 8-13 overall record and a 2-7 mark in the Mountain West Conference.
