FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State scored six runs in the final three innings on Friday to defeat Utah, 8-5.

The win, CSU’s first conference victory, improved the Rams’ record to 17-18 overall this season and evened their Mountain West mark at 1-1. Utah fell to 13-21.

Junior Allison Majam and senior Shannon Causgrove led the Rams at the plate with two RBI apiece. Causgrove recorded the Rams’ first RBI in the bottom of the first inning when she singled to right field to plate sophomore Caitlan Stem, who singled to short to lead off the inning.

Majam tied the game at four in the bottom of the fourth inning when she doubled to center field to plate sophomore Ivory Allen and Stem. Junior Rebecca Penland gave Colorado State a 5-4 advantage on her single to left center to plate Majam from second.

Causgrove recorded her second RBI of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases-loaded walk to score Stem for her third run of the game.

Freshman Kelli Eubanks, who relieved fellow freshman Dani Chaplin with two outs in the top of the first inning, allowed a two-out single in the top of the seventh inning that cut the Rams’ lead to 8-5, but she recorded the final out of the game to pick up her seventh victory this season.
